Wow, that's about 5-6 weeks early! Is it possible that it
could have been an overwintering Townsends? they can
sound quite similar at times, both can be buzzy, both can be
rising in pitch. Something to consider anyway, and not
something to rely on tapes for id since these species are so
variable in their songs. However, our local Olywa BGWAs
are fairly stereotyped with 2 major song types, one of which
is not on most tapes I've heard. If there's ever any doubt, try
pishing loudly to try and get a visual confirmation: I have
found BGWA very responsive, but TOWA less so. Happy
