I visited Vancouver Lake, in Clark County, WA. this evening
(3-6-98) in search of SHORT-EARED OWLS after my son reported seeing at
least ten of them at once on Wednesday evening. The birds he saw were on
La Framboise Road in the Game Dept. owned fields along the road to the
Game Dept. boat launch for Vancouver Lake. (Sorry for the misdirections
earlier, Bob and Carol) I did not see the owls where Bob, Carol and I
looked, but did have a COMMON LOON in the Columbia River off of Post
Office Lake. I finally found two SHORT-EARED OWLS at the South end of
Shillapoo Lake, past the Vancouver Lake County Park.
On the way back from the lowlands a BLACK-CROWNED NIGHT- HERON
flew across the Fourth Plain Road near the intersections with Old Lower
River Road. In January, I had seen one roosting at the small pond there.
