Dear seabirders,
We are in immediate need of one more long-term (11 April to 1 August)
volunteer research assistant to complete our Farallon Island research team
this seabird season. The job description is below, please apply asap if you

Point Reyes Bird Observatory is seeking one long-term VOLUNTEER SEABIRD
RESEARCH ASSISTANT to work on the Farallon Islands National Wildlife Refuge
from 11 APRIL TO 1 AUGUST 1998. RA duties include censusing and monitoring
seabird populations, conducting demographic investigations on cormorants,
gulls, petrels and alcids, and conducting feeding ecology studies on alcids.
RAs also contribute to the upkeep and maintanece of the research station.
RAs will work full-time, 7 days a week, with a variable schedule that
includes long days and night work. Applicants should enjoy working
independently with a high level of responsibility in field work and data
entry as well as working frequently with a partner or team. Preference will
be given to applicants with a degree in biology or related field and prior
ecological research experience. Enthusiasm for field work in windy, cold
conditions essential. The ability to coexist on a small, isolated island
with gulls and humans important. We provide great food and island housing.
Transportation to boat in San Francisco not provided. Please send a cover
