Coincidental to this discussion (or as a result of it?) there is an article
in the March 4 Sacramento Bee on the potentail threat of Barred Owl
predation and hybridization of Spotted Owls. Here is the web page for the text:

It basically concurs with what's been discussed already including some
quotes from sources mentioned here with the usual journalistic
sensationalist spin (e.g "There's a bigger, stronger, meaner owl moving into
the forests of the Pacific Northwest..."). It was in the March 6
Moscow/Pullman Daily News.
