I crossed the border yesterday for a few hours of WA birding--highlights were:

- A pair of calling and singing LESSER GOLDFINCHES on a wire along the
paved road between Maryhill State Park and the town of Maryhill (Klickitat,
WA DeLorme 26:C2). Specifically, they were about midpoint between the east
end of the park and the church, south side of the road. Forgive me if this
LEGO site is common knowledge to you Washington birders, but it was new to me.

- Nearby was a very WESTERN-looking GULL among "larus pugetensis" (WEGU x
GWGU), along the Columbia R, a few miles west of the John Day Dam.
Complete with dark under-primaries.

- Ad. male TUFTED DUCK still at Bingen, near the log decks, a small bit
downstream from the regular spot.

- RED_NECKED GREBE a few hundred yards upstream of the Tufted Duck.

- also in the vicinity: SAY'S PHOEBE, TREE SWALLOWS, several LEWIS'S
WOODPECKERS

Across the river in OR, at the mouth of the Deschutes River, add:

- a pair of RED-BREASTED MERGANSERS, 6 BARROW'S GOLDENEYE among 100 or so
Commons, a SHORT-EARED OWL, a SPOTTED SANDPIPER, more swallows, ...
