When lizards lose their tails, the tail can grow back. However, this new section of tail does not contain any vertebrae; the bones do not grow back, only cartilage and muscle. So if the lizard ever loses its tail again, the break can only occur closer to the body than the first break. Thus, the break does not occur at the same location.
