Tweets,

Last night Hal Oppermann, Dave Swayne, Tom Aversa and I did another stint on
our King/Kittitas Breeding Bird Atlas owl search. With keys and permits we
entered the Cedar River Watershed on the south side near Kangley, owled all
around Walsh Lake, then out at Cedar Falls at about 11 PM. A fine night with
the just slightly gibbous waning moon rising about 10 through thin clouds.
We conversed with at least 5 BARRED OWLS at three spots near Walsh Lake, two
SAW-WHETS in the same general area (glimpsed one), and three WESTERN
SCREECH-OWLS, including a highly vocal pair at the same spot where found a
week ago (near the headquarters at Cedar Falls). We suspect that we could
find these three species in virtually every quad below 1000 feet in the
county if we had nothing else to do nights.
