CLALLAM COUNTY

March 10, 1998 - 8:03 a.m. - Second-hand report from Steve Pink and Jim
Flynn who went to Neah Bay yesterday and failed to find the Crested
Caracara, which the locals have not seen for a week or so. Between Neah
Bay and Sekiu they saw 40 BLACK-LEGGED KITTIWAKES and six HEERMANN'S GULLS.

GRAYS HARBOR COUNTY

March 3, 1998 - 7:51 p.m. - On March 1, a ROUGH-LEGGED HAWK at the Hoquiam
sewage treatment ponds, but the Red Phalarope reported earlier was gone.
At the Ocean Shores golf course, 16 GREATER WHITE-FRONTED GEESE. Out over
the harbor from the Westport jetty, 5-6 BLACK-LEGGED KITTIWAKES, plus an
adult in winter plumage resting at the base of the jetty. (SGi)

ISLAND COUNTY

March 8, 1998 - 9:23 p.m. - On Whidbey Island today, a YELLOW-BILLED LOON
swimming in the straits off Swantown; a BLACK-LEGGED KITTIWAKE off Fort
Ebey State Park; a GLAUCOUS GULL in farm fields just S of Coupeville; and
on the Penn Cove mussel platforms, 300 BLACK TURNSTONES and 14 SURFBIRDS.

March 4, 1998 - 7:36 a.m. - Yesterday at the intersection of West
Snoqualmie Valley Road and Woodinville-Duvall Road, the CLAY-COLORED
SPARROW and one WHITE-THROATED SPARROW still present. (SMl)

March 8, 1998 - 2:23 p.m. - A WESTERN TANAGER yesterday and today at the
back-yard feeder of Jim and Virginia Morrison, a few blocks north of the
University of Washington campus, confirmed by Gene Hunn. Can be seen from

KITSAP COUNTY

March 8, 1998 - 7:44 p.m. - Today at Point No Point at the NE tip of the
Kitsap Peninsula, an adult basic-plumaged BLACK-HEADED GULL feeding with
about 2000 BONAPARTE'S GULLS from about 5:00 to 5:45 p.m. (VNe)

March 10, 1998 - 9:02 a.m. - Late yesterday and again this morning, a
LITTLE GULL at Point No Point, but the Black-headed Gull not seen yesterday
or this morning. (VNe)

KLICKITAT COUNTY

March 10, 1998 - 9:16 p.m. - On the 9th, the male TUFTED DUCK still
offshore of the log-scaling building on the levee in Bingen, reached from
Maple Street. At Dallesport, at the ponds along Tidyman Road, a female
YELLOW-HEADED BLACKBIRD and a NORTHERN SHRIKE. (WCa)

OKANOGAN COUNTY

March 8, 1998 - 7:12 a.m. - Seen yesterday near Havillah, two WHITE-WINGED
CROSSBILLS; at Chesaw, 80 WHITE-WINGED CROSSBILLS and two COMMON REDPOLLS;
near Tonasket, two pairs of WESTERN BLUEBIRDS. At those places and in
between, 100+ RED-BREASTED NUTHATCHES, 140+ MOUNTAIN CHICKADEES, and about
15 WHITE-BREASTED NUTHATCHES. (SMl)

PACIFIC COUNTY

March 3, 1998 - 7:51 p.m. - At Tokeland on March 1, two WHIMBRELS, a
WILLET, and a MARBLED GODWIT on the breakwater at the marina at high tide.
In the vicinity of the Raymond Airport, a first-winter GLAUCOUS GULL in a
large flock of MEW and RING-BILLED GULLS across the road from the airport,
and seven TREE SWALLOWS in fields near the airport. The White-tailed Kite
reported earlier was not found. (SGi)

SKAGIT COUNTY

March 8, 1998 - 7:12 a.m. - Second-hand report from Steve Pink on the 6th:
a GYRFALCON at its usual hangout off Sunset Road; an adult male SNOWY OWL
seen on the dike from West Edison; and two WHITE-THROATED SPARROWS at the
Skagit WRA headquarters area near Conway. (SMl)

March 8, 1998 - 8:56 p.m. - Today in Mount Vernon, a THAYER'S GULL at Lions
Park. At the Green Road Pond at the N end of Green Road, off Cook Road in
Burlington, a female TUFTED DUCK. (GBl)

March 10, 1998 - 9:16 p.m. - Three WESTERN BLUEBIRDS on March 9 at Hamilton
Island Recreation Area, below Bonneville Dam (Hwy 14, milepost 38.4). (WCa)

SNOHOMISH COUNTY

March 4, 1998 - 7:36 a.m. - A HARRIS'S SPARROW yesterday along the hedgerow
in the middle of the field at the end of Eide Road near Stanwood, but the
Vesper Sparrow and the flock of Savannah Sparrows reported earlier could
not be found. At Two Rivers WMA south of Monroe, one HARRIS'S SPARROW with
GOLDEN-CROWNED and WHITE-CROWNED SPARROWS, a NORTHERN "YELLOW-SHAFTED"
FLICKER, and 2-3 hybrid "YELLOW-SHAFTED" x "RED-SHAFTED" FLICKERS. From
the N parking lot, walk across the slough and turn right. The Rusty
Blackbird, White-throated Sparrows, and Swamp Sparrow seen earlier were not
relocated. (SMl)

March 8, 1998 - 7:12 a.m. - On the 6th in the evening, the apparent TUFTED
DUCK x SCAUP hybrid still in the small pond along Lowell-Larimer Road, on
the left side just before you leave Everett. The bird is quite tame and
there is some suspicion it may be an escapee. A "HARLAN'S" RED-TAILED HAWK
along Lowell-Larimer Road just before you reach Snohomish. (SMl)
