I happen to be doing some research into this issue of disturbance and
rookeries- i have found many studies that repeat the idea that increase
human disturbance induced the birds to move to the opposite end of the
colony from the disturbance. One paper suggested that 100m was a good
buffer zone width to prevent a reduction in reproductive success- BUT i
would like to see some papers/ research dealing with urban rookery sites-
most work is done is fairly remote areas- but we all know rookeries that
are in urban settings...what about them? anyone have any citations for
studies on such herons (in colonies)?
thanks,
jennifer
