A quick visit this afternoon (March 16) to the Black River Slough west of
Renton showed at least one Eurasian Teal still in the slough. Also 35-45
Great Blue Herons, numerous G-W Teal, one Kingfisher (sex unidentified),
Pied-Billed Grebe, Canada Geese, Gadwall, Mallards, Am. Wigeon, Lesser Scaup,
two Goldeneye (f), Bufflehead, Hooded Merganser (pair), Coot.

Met Suzanne Krom who said that Renton was considering approving development
(the threshold decision has been due any day now, since Christmas) of five
commercial buildings, the nearest of which would be 5-600 feet from the main
Great Blue Heron nesting site. Suzanne was determining how many of the nests
were active, which she has done for last nine years (if I remember correctly).
She invited anyone to e-mail her at szkrom at aol.com if they are interested in
the issue.
