A quick species list of yesterday's birds at Lost Lagoon in Stanley Park.
With Mark White.

Many large scaup flights in and out of the Lagoon with a total of about
6,000 on the Lagoon itself.

Much courting going with Lesser Scaup Aythya affinis and Bufflehead
Bucephala albeola. A group of Norther Shoveler Anas platalea have taken up
residence on a small rocky island along the shoreline on the NE side of the
Lagoon, and have become very tame--very unlike this species--in that they
don't flee in panic flight as people walk by fairly close but go on
cat-napping. At least five males are in Definitive Alternate plumage: a good
opportunity to study this normally very shy duck. Mark has been noting the
Great Blue Herons Ardea herodias have been adding sticks to their new
nesting sites along the NW side of the lagoon.
