Okay, got the insight on Heermann's Gull. None of my books mentioned white on
rump. aacck.(I'm a novice at this or I know my list would be much longer, the
amount of birds I heard but can not identify their song is astounding and
would make this list quite longer.)
Here's the list.
Stellar Jays
Dark Eyed Junco
Cormorants (a very small black one, numerous and larger ones with yellow
bills)Don't know what they were positively
Bald Eagles (numerous) (adult and imm)
Varied Thrushes
Robins
Common Mergansers
Red Breasted Mergansers
Great Blue Heron
Song Sparrow
Surf Scoters
White Winged Scoters
Sea Lions
Chipmunks
Pigeon Guillemot
Hooded Mergansers
Eared Grebes
Black-Legged Kittiwake (1st ever)
Heermann's Gull (3 imm 1st ever)
Common Murre
Winter Wren (noisy fella)
Marbeled Murrelet (numerous 1st ever)
Western Grebes
House Sparrows
Crows
Ravens
Buffleheads
Golden Eagle
Horned Grebe (changing to breeding plumage, 1st time I've seen this)
(a submarine-kind of creepy going through the straits)
Common Loon
Pacific Loon
Starlings
Barrow's Goldeneye

Lot's of other types of gulls, very frustrating to try to identify still. I
am trying to have patience and just jot down all the differences and then look
them up later, but they won't stand still! LOL
Anyways, it was a lovely trip. I can't wait til' the day that I may be able
to recognize more birds by song besides the Robin, Chickadees and Crows.
