Othello's 1st Annual Sandhill Crane Festival

The Sandhill Crane is one of the many migratory birds making an
appearance in Othello, Washington, this spring. Sandhill Cranes have a
distinctive loud, rolling hollow cry that can carry over a mile. There
are fifteen species of cranes worldwide and Othello is one of
Washington's best birding hot spots. Come learn about these interesting

birds!

Saturday, March 28, 1998 at Othello High School, 370 South 7th Street

Crane Viewing, buses will leave from the High School at 8, 9, 10, 11
a.m. and 12, 1, 2 p.m. The cost is $5 per person.

In Addition:

An exhibit of crane art will be held at the High School.

The Washington Wetlands Network, Wetnet, will be conducting a meeting
examining "Wetlands and Watersheds in the Columbia Basin" from 10 a.m.
to 1 p.m. at the High School. Topics include: Introductions and
Columbia Basin Wetlands and Watersheds, Successful Community Based
Wetland Appreciation Programs, Strategies for Working Together. A field

trip will take place for participants from 1:30 to 4:00 ($5 fee for
field trip)

An Important Bird Areas workshop will be conducted by Tim Cullinan,
ornithologist for Audubon-WA, from 10:00 a.m. to noon on Sunday March
29th at the High School.
