Tweeters,

When I visit my folks out in the Kent Valley about a mile north of
downtown Kent, I not infreqently
hear what sounds an awful lot like a killdeer after dark. The cry
is from a flying bird and it sounds
like a one-note killdeer, rather than the typical two-note killdeer
cry (or at least that's how I hear it).
The one-note cry is not short, more of a middle length note. This
is when it is very dark out, say
9PM the other day.

There used to be hundreds of killdeer out there on the family land
when I was a kid, so I am
familiar with killdeer cries. The flocks have been replaced for the
most part by warehouses now.

So my question is: Do Killdeer fly at night? Does something else?
Thanks in advance for
any help with this.
