March 19, 1998, Thursday, 10:27 a.m. Hi, this is Hugh Jennings, (425)
746-6351. This morning about 9:00 o'clock we were walking in the Kelsey
Creek area in the oriental gardens part of the park there. In one of
the long-needled pines, in the sunshine, there was a female RED
CROSSBILL sitting in the top of this tree. We got to observe it for two
or three minutes. A good siting. Nothing special other than that.

March 18, 1998, Wednesday, 8:43 a.m. Vic Nelson at Point No Point on
the northeast tip of the Kitsap Peninsula. Yesterday, March 17, there
was a first winter BLACK-LEGGED KITTIWAKE here. Also an adult LITTLE
GULL and an adult common BLACK-HEADED GULL was also seen again yesterday
between about 9:30 to 10:30/11:00 o'clock. The best time to look for
these birds in the next couple of days would be approximately between
10:00 o'clock and 1:00 o'clock today and tomorrow and a little later
Friday, Saturday and Sunday, let's say 11:00 to 2:00 or 3:00 o'clock by
the weekend. Thank you. Good-bye.

March 18, 1998, Wednesday, 5:55 a.m. . Hello, this is Dave Beaudette,
(206) 365-2083. At 3:50 p.m. on March 17, the female TUFTED DUCK was
again seen on the Green Road pond in Skagit County. From I-5 head east
a short distance on the Cook Road. Take Exit 232 from I-5 to get on the
Cook Road. Then head north on the Green Road for approximately 1.2
miles to the Kelleher Road. The Green Road pond is the large wetland
southeast of this intersection. I saw the bird in the north edge of the
wetland and saw it from the Kelleher Road. On the north edge of the
Kelleher Road is a metal gate with a faded white sign that reads "Skagit
County Property No Trespassing." The bird was seen south of this point
from the Kelleher Road. The female TUFTED DUCK has a very noticeable
crest and is hanging with RING-NECKED DUCKS. On the way back, I saw the
GOLDEN EAGLE in Snohomish County at the west end of the Bow Road in the
Stillaguamish delta. The bird was sitting on a piling along the dike at
the north end of the road. Catch you later. Bye.

March 17, 1998, Tuesday, 3:19 p.m. Hi, this Pete Hammil (?) and I am
reporting the first arriving RUFOUS HUMMINGBIRD to my feeders. It must
mean spring is finally here. Thanks.

March 16, 1998, Monday, 8:20 p.m. Hello, this is Tom Schooley in
Olympia. (360) 357-8851. On Saturday, March 14, the SAS field trip saw
a GYRFALCON on Brady Loop Road just south of Mt. Brady Road. Also there
were two GREEN-BACKED HERONS on the ponds on the south side of the road
by Vance Creek Park. Then at the pond at Vance Creek Park there was a
WHITE-WINGED SCOTER, which seemed a little out of place.
