Hello Tweeters,

I'm a devoted lurker, and once in awhile have something to say:

(1) My friends in Ballard (who do not subscribe to Tweeters) are fascinated
by the large numbers of cormorants they have seen along the Ship Canal --
the perching in poplars is what has their attention. Cormorant feet aren't
well adapted to tree perching; poplar trees are not well adapted to being
perched upon. Something quite irresistible must be luring the birds to such
uncomfortable accommodations. Comments?

(2) Here in Ketchikan, Alaska, salmonberries and blueberries are blooming
in profusion -- already! Today was clear, warm, and calm. It's spring break
for our school district; I pity the poor fools who paid big bucks to fly
out to traditional sun spots, missing the most spectacular moments of the
season. I walked out the road this morning, totally expecting to hear or
see the first RUFOUS. Not yet. It's early, but I'm sure they will be here
any day now. I'll let you know.
