Just came back from an errand and saw two Violet-Green Swallows Tachycineta
thalassina, one in swift-like 'stiff-wing' display around a vent in a house
about a block away from mine, at the W end of the Kitsilano area of
Vancouver BC, so this is the return sighting of our local resident birds (as
opposed to pioneer, north-to-Alaska males which came back in Week 2 Feb and
subsequent migrants).

Normally, these neighborhood birds arrive average Apr 04 and more often than
not, they're usually bang-on that date, occasionally one or two days at most
away from it. This is the earliest I've ever seen the resident swallows
here, exactly fourteen days earlie than their average.
