Gosh, I was just discussing this with my anthropologist sister
yesterday. No, we're not anymore up on it than anyone else, but
both of us have encountered (many) people that are quicker
bird spotters than we are, and some people with enviable
bird listening abilities as well. We were debating whether we
should have started birding younger - wouldn't have hurt, but
how much would it have helped?

And in Kenn Kaufman's book "Kingbird Highway," he speaks
of the late Ted Parker as a "superior being." He was just that
far out in front of even the next best birders.

Anyway, Darrel - keep reinforcing those young naturalists and
finding ways to feed their intelligences.
