In my post to Tom B. I used the terms 'intergrade' and 'hybrid'
interchangeably, which is confusing and incorrect, likely a mental reflex
from a time when the American Ornithological Union decreed the birds were
separated species.

Sorry. To be clear, I meant 'intergrade' as mixing is between recognisable
subspecies within the species; 'hybridism' occurs between species. That
said, as additional clarification of species/subspecies status occurs, the
AOU may on the best available information deem this year's intergrade to be
next year's hybrid and vice-versa.
