March 20, 1998, Friday, 4:48 p.m. The following report was received on
Friday, March 20, from Jerry Converse of Grand Coulee, Washington.
Sandy, his wife and fellow birder, saw 2 BLUE JAYS at his feeder this
morning. He saw them in the trees below his house and they are waiting
to see if they come back. This was a positive ID.
March 21, 1998, Saturday, 6:42 p.m. Gary Bletsch, (360) 853-7203.
Today Craig and Kathy Kemper and I saw the female TUFTED DUCK again at
the Green Road pond in its usual haunt.
March 22, 1998, Sunday, 5:15 p.m. This Douglas Marshall (206) 270-8960.
While visiting over on Wing Point, Bainbridge Island today, I saw a
SLATE-COLORED JUNCO at a feeder.
March 22, 1998, Sunday, 6:55p.m., Good evening, this is Brian Bell (425)
485-8058. This morning, Sunday, we had a LITTLE GULL from the Edmonds
Ferry Terminal about 8:40 in the morning. We actually saw it from the
ferry, but it was close enough in that it probably would have been
visible from the fisherman's pier there at Edmonds. Nice black
underwings, giving us good views. Good luck and good birding.
March 23, 1998, Monday, 8:00 a.m. Hi, this is Steve Mlodinow.
Yesterday, Sunday, March 22, I believe, I had a VESPER SPARROW at the
end of Eide Road where Tom Aversa had seen it previously. To find this
bird, go to the end of Eide Road and park. There is a u-shaped dike.
Coming out of the u-shaped dike, transecting the "U," there is a
hedgerow. At the south end of this hedgerow, where it hits the dike,
there was a flock of SAVANNAH SPARROWS and the VESPER SPARROW was in
there. I didn't see the HARRIS' SPARROW, but they were a little tricky
as it was being somewhat elusive, it could very well still be in there
as well. Also, at the end of Boe Road, nearby south of Stanwood, there
were 10 EURASIAN WIGEON, which is the best concentration I have had in
this relatively poor EURASIAN WIGEON year. That's it. Good luck and
