A friend of mine went with a birding group to Cuba. They left from
Toronto. They were joined in Cuba by a "guide" who also happened to work
for Castro's government (somethng that was obvious to the whole group).
The person my friend birded with knew Spanish and was thrilled to be in
Cuba and talked to everyone. Eventually, that person and my friend were
detained by the police who asked them things like "Why are you asking
people when Castro is going to visit the Zapata Swamp?" My friend told
them that if they were going to have someone spy on them and report on
them, they should get someone who does a better job since that wasn't
even close to ANYthing that was said. They were eventually let go and
went home with the rest of the group. No further problems occurred, but
my friend sure came back with a story to tell (not to mention all the
neat birds they saw)!

Happy bird-day,
Ken
