When I was about 13, I was out by myself birding a pond near my
house. I stopped to lean against a tree while watching beavers,
tundra swans, wood ducks, mallards, and of course, Canada Geese.
This was probably the largest race of Canada Geese, those birds were
almost as tall as I was at that age. I heard a noise above me, and
looked up in time to see a huge goose dropping off a branch not 20
feet above me. Since they can't getting a running start like they do
off water, it just dropped down and spread its wings to catch the
air. By the time it did, it was less than 5 feet from my head. I
don't know if there was a nest up there, but at that point I'd had
enough of Canada geese for a few days.
