Fran,

I've seen the same in Renton on Lake Washington. There's a pole with a
platform for the ospreys in the Quendall Log Yard. Canada geese nest there
successfully before the ospreys return from their winter haunts (Central and
South America). I don't know the survival rate, but the goslings apparently
just jump off the platform on their way to the lake.

Mentioning Canada geese jumping from any height, on tweeters, in the past
has led to discussions of cliff-nesting Canada geese, where the fledglings
bounce like yellow fluff-balls down the face of the cliff. You may want to
search the tweeters archives for more information. I imagine a search for
cliff-nesting and Canada geese would do the trick.
