Hello, this is Portland Audubon Society's Rare Bird Report. This
recording was made Thursday March 26. If you have anything to add call
Harry Nehls at 233-3976.

The BROWN THRASHER along Bond Butte Road southeast of Harrisburg is still
being seen, as is the BLACK DUCK at Hood River. A CLARK'S GREBE was among
a large flock of WESTERN GREBES at Hood River March 24.

Large flocks of TREE SWALLOWS are now being reported and many
VIOLET-GREEN SWALLOWS are in residential neighborhoods. Smaller numbers
of CLIFF, ROUGH-WINGED, and BARN SWALLOWS were reported during the week.
Flocks of VULTURES are now moving north and OSPREY are returning to their
nest sites.

A SHORT-TAILED and 3 SOOTY SHEARWATERS were seen off Cape Arago March 25.
An OLDSQUAW is still at Charleston near the mouth of Coos Bay. Two BROWN
PELICANS and several HEERMANN'S GULLS were there March 24. Two CASPIAN
TERNS were at Bandon March 25

A SAY'S PHOEBE was along the upper Clackamas River at Ripplebrook March
17. ORANGE-CROWNED WARBLERS are now singing in many parts of the
Willamette Valley. Two male YELLOWTHROATS were singing at Fern Ridge
Reservoir, near Eugene March 25. An early WARBLING VIREO was in
Willamette Park in Corvallis March 21. A female CALLIOPE HUMMINGBIRD was
at a feeder near Lebanon during the week.

The immature BULLOCK'S ORIOLE (listed as a Western Tanager in last weeks
RBA) is still coming to a feeder northwest of Salem. Although more
appropriate was made available it still preferred sunflower seeds.

LONG-BILLED CURLEWS have returned to northeastern Oregon and AVOCETS and
STILTS are now in the Klamath Basin. Large numbers of SNOW and ROSS'S
GEESE are still in the Klamath area, along with a few blue phased birds
of both species.

GREAT HORNED OWLS now have young in the nest with some young birds
already out and climbing around. Several KILLDEER nests have been
reported but so far no young have been seen. Not many young ducks or
geese yet either.

Thats it for this week.
