Subject: Where are the terns?

Last weekend I helped lead a 4H Natural Resourses float trip to look at
the sea lions at the Everett Naval Base. I recalled how in years past
there was a sizeable tern population near the marina parking lot. In
spite of constantly looking, I saw not a single tern. I remember a thread
about this a year or so ago, but haven't heard much since. Have any of
you Tweeters seen any large groups of terns in our region? I know that
Jetty Island was supposed to be the new area, but when we did a two
hour cleanup on that Island, no terns were seen either. Perhaps it's
too early in the year yet? I'm wondering where all the displaced birds
may have gone. By the way, there were fewer sea lions than years past,
possibly because the log boom they reside on has been moved. We saw more
harbor seals than last year, however.
