Trileigh,

Sorry I missed you at the lake! Must be nice to visit the old neighborhood
when you have some time. Although your timing weather-wise sounded less than
ideal.

About your eagles question. On Wednesday I saw two adults (white heads) on
the island. I have not seen a subadult for a week or so, but that doesn't
mean there isn't one (or rather several) of them around. Ernie Rose (Raptor
keeper Woodland Park Zoo) tells me he doesn't often see adults in/over the
zoo now, but regularly sees subadults. As you know the Zoo practically
overlooks Green Lake.

I'm convinced there are several subadults floating around town this time of
year. We may even be to the point where we have non-breeding adult birds
around. I. e. all the best spots for territories may be taken. I'm still
hoping for a few more territories (Lower Woodland Park, Arboretum, you know
spots like that) but the eagles may have other plans.

Don't know for sure about bushtit nest construction schedule, but I imagine
they may continue with construction/repair during the incubation and
pre-fledging stage. Seems the logical thing to do. But then who says logic
has anything to do with it? Especially human logic...at times the worst
kind.

Hope "your" swallows show up soon,

Martin Muller, Seattle
