17 birders joined an ELWAS field trip to Nisqually on a cool, windy Sat. We
had a total of 51 species. Highlights were 10-15 Rufous Hummingbirds, two
Wood Ducks, three Greater Yellowlegs, a few Bald Eagles including a nesting
pair at usual place west of McAllister Creek and a number of nesting Great
Blue Herons at the rookery west of the creek and one Virginia Rail heard.
Other species were:

Pied-billed and Horned Grebes
Double-crested Cormorants
13 waterfowl species with a Wood Duck pair, and Hooded & Common Mergansers
Red-tailed Hawks
Northern Harrier
American Coot
2 Killdeer
Mew, Ring-billed and Glaucous-winged Gulls
2 Belted Kingfisher - both male, one along Nisqually R. & one on McAllister
Creek
Downy Woodpeckers
Northern Flicker
only a very few Tree and Violet-green Swallows
Steller's Jay
American Crow
Black-capped Chickadees
2 Brown Creepers
Bewick's and Marsh Wrens
Ruby- and Golden-crowned Kinglets
Turdis Migratorius
European Starling
large number of Yellow-rumped Warblers
Song Sparrow
Golden- and White-crowned Sparrows
Dark-eyed Junco
Red-winged Blackbird
Western Meadowlark heard
