Dear Tweeters:
My aunt and uncle own a cattle ranch in eastern Oregon. They try to
manage for wildlife, and have recently opened their very remote ranch
home as a B&B, and have been asking me how they can get birders
interested in their place. I suggested they first of all offer their
place for two nights to a good birder or two for FREE and that maybe, if
the birders found the place has good birding potential, that word would
get around, or at least they would know that it would be worth
advertising in birding pubs. It was the e. oregon thread that reminded
me that I had offered to make this post and serve as intermediary in
setting something like that up. Tom and I covered a breeding bird route
(near Flora) there once last year for my aunt (who participates in BBS
and has some bit of birding experience and enthusiasm). Anyway her
route was great fun, her cooking is great (all meals are included
because the place is so remote), and there is much to be learned from
cattle ranchers who love the earth and are doing their best to make a
living and protect the habitat. And finally, there is no more gorgeous
place than NE Oregon. If anyone is interested in spending a couple of
days birding on and around their place in May, please contact me.
