While we are still (more or less) on the subject of wood duck boxes, I'll
contribute another tidbit. Several years ago, a wood duck box that I had
erected on an alder tree by my folks' pond was taken over by a colony of
honey bees. They may be there still, as the box kind of hangs over the
water, not easily accessible to skunks, bears or other(?) bee predators.
Just another thing to watch for when maintaining wood duck boxes.
