Hi Tweets,

Recently I was SCUBA diving near Duwamish Head, just northeast of Alki,
and spotted some potentially good nearshore pilings for purple martin
nestboxes. I've had some success the past two years in getting martins
to use nest boxes in Ballard, and these pilings might do nicely, but
will take some work (and a ladder) to maintain. I live too far away to
provide good stewardship, but if anyone else might be interested, I can
provide free boxes, advice, and occasional assistance.

These pilings would only be accessible (by ladder) at low tide or with a
boat. The property is possibly managed by the Seattle Parks Dept, but I
suspect there would be no problems from the agency. Hopefully the
department would be supportive if they were aware of efforts that might
be made out there. Boxes should be made available for the martins by mid
May or so. The design follows the advice of Olympia purple martin
pioneer Jack Davis.

Anyone interested?
