This is the Lower Columbia Basin Audubon Society Bird Alert for March 23,

On March 10, Florence Hangartner and Betty Whitmer saw a pair of GRAY
PARTRIDGE along Clodfelter Road south of Kennewick.

The first LONG-BILLED CURLEW reported was seen by Mike Lilga on March 15
near the ball field south of Battelle Blvd. In North Richland.

On March 14, Phil Bartley found 45 GREATER WHITE-FRONTED GEESE on Whitcomb
Island and saw CLIFF SWALLOWS along the Columbia River, while on March 18,
Phil found a PINE SISKIN in his yard and 6 HERMIT THRUSHES and a
WHITE-THROATED SPARROW on Bateman Island.

Randy Hill of Othello observed a mixed flock of VIOLET-GREEN and TREE
SWALLOWS on the Columbia NWR on March 17 and the following day found a
gray-phase GYRFALCON near the White Bluffs area.

I (Bob Woodley) saw TREE and CLIFF SWALLOWS, 7 GREATER YELLOWLEGS and 17
DUNLIN on the Yakima Delta on March 17.

On March 19, Duane Faletti reported having seen three pair of VARIED
THRUSHES in his yard during the previous two weeks.

Nancy LaFramboise, Ruth Fischer and I found 2 LONG-BILLED CURLEWS in the
field south of Battlelle Blvd on March 19 while near the Midway Power
Station west of Vernita, we saw a LONG-EARED OWL, CANYON WREN, and
VIOLET-GREEN SWALLOWS. (and CHUKAR)

On March 20, I observed the first 2 AMERICAN AVOCET for the year on the
Yakima Delta. They were accompanied by a GREATER YELLOWLEGS.

Craig Corder and Judy Stevens reported 4 EARED GREBES and a LONG-BILLED
CURLEW east of the McNary Dam, a lone YELLOW-HEADED BLACKBIRD in with a
thousand Brewer's Blackbirds near the AgriNorthwest headquarters between
Plymouth and Patterson, a TUNDRA SWAN at Crow Butte State Park, and 5
EURASIAN WIGEON in with a thousand American Wigeon on Whitcomb Island all
on March 21.

The following day, Craig and Judy found 2 CINNAMON TEAL in a pond along
Bunn Road, north of Prosser.

Lastly, today, (3/23) Ruth Fischer discovered a pair of BLACK-NECKED STILT
at a pond on Gap Road, 1/2 mile north of Highway I-82, Exit 80. And also
today I determined that the LINCOLN'S SPARROW remained at the north end of
Logston Blvd in Richland, and on the Yakima Delta the AMERICAN AVOCET and
GREATER YELLOWLEGS were joined by 24 DUNLIN.
