Here's a neat trick I learned on a recent field trip. You can take your
favorite field guide(s) to Kinkos and they will cut the binding, drill
holes, and insert a spiral binding (of your favorite color!). This allows
you to easily keep your field guide opened to a certain page. I haven't
heard of any problems with this but note that you might loose a very small
amount from some pages. I got my NGS guide bound for $3.00.
