In the Idaho panhandle (Benewah Co. north) you can often hear birds
doing both calls, as was evident on a WOS trip a couple of years ago.
My experience is that most of the Moscow Mt. and south birds are
usually more Cordilleran... If there's a ecotypic gradient for these
creatures, perhaps we Idahoans of the panhandle have the luck of being somewhere in
the middle, which is why Western Flycatcher works for me.
