I thought that fellow Tweeters would be interested in Rainier Audubon's
competition for The Audubon Cup on May 16th!

The "Audubon - O'Brien Cup" honors National Audubon Society's Chairman of
the Board Donal O'Brien Jr. and his wife, Katie and represents the spirit
of the O'Briens' commitment to Audubon and their enthusiasm for Birdathon.

Rainier Audubon, Washington State's South King County Audubon chapter with
800 members, is competing against 3 other chapters across the country:

Chicago Audubon (4,600 members)
Golden Gate Audubon (San Francisco) (4,900 members)
New Columbia Audubon (Wash. DC) (1,000 members)
for National Audubon's Birdathon "Audubon Cup"! There is a handicapping
system so that the competition between the chapters will be equitable.

For the last 3 years, Rainier Audubon has won 1st place in the United
States for Birdathon in competitions against chapters of its own size, so
we have an EXCELLENT chance to also win the "Audubon Cup"!

The "Audubon Cup" prizes will be awarded at the July 1998 National Audubon
Convention in Estes Park, Colorado to the Challenge chapter with:
Most Species Seen and Most Birdathon Money Pledged!

Rainier Audubon has a goal of seeing 213 bird species! The areas of the
state that we will visit on May 16th include the Cascade Foothills, Eastern
Washington, Ocean Shores, Port Angeles/Port Townsend, South Puget Sound and
the Soos Creek/Lake Sawyer areas.

For a list of the 213 bird species on our Audubon Cup checklist, visit

We would welcome Sponsors to support us on our quest for the Audubon Cup -
plus help with pointers on locations for the best birding on May 16th!
