Hello, this is Portland Audubon Society's Rare Bird Report. This
recording was made Thursday May 7. If you have anything to add call Harry
Nehls at 233-3976.

An adult male ROSE-BREASTED GROSBEAK was with the many migrants at the
Mt. Pisgah Arboretum near Eugene May 4. A COMMON GRACKLE was at Fields
May 5. The two BLUE JAYS are still in the residential area of Burns. They
may attempt to nest. The COSTA'S HUMMINGBIRD that wintered at a Grants
Pass feeder is still being seen.

Migrations are still going strong and should still be good for another
week or so. Although BROWN PELICANS have been seen along the coast all
spring, the first noticable northward movement was seen May 4 along the
Curry County coast.

Up to 10 WESTERN KINGBIRDS, a SAGE THRASHER, a MOCKINGBIRD, a LARK
SPARROW, a couple of LAZULI BUNTINGS, and a VESPER SPARROW have been seen
lately near Cape Blanco in Curry County.

A SAY'S PHOEBE and two WESTERN KINGBIRDS were on the North Spit of Coos
Bay May 1. A black and white kingbird, probably an EASTERN KINGBIRD, was
near the Newport Airport May 5. A breeding plumaged PACIFIC GOLDEN-PLOVER
was on the Boiler Bay Wayside parking lot May 2.

Five WHITE PELICANS were at the Bayocean Shorebird Flats on Tillamook Bay
April 30. Over 300 WHIMBREL were on the golf course near the Tillamook
Cheese Factory May 2. A MARBLED GODWIT and 88 WHIMBREL were along
Wireless Road near Astoria May 6. On May 5 a flock of 11 WHITE-FACED IBIS
flew north over the Astoria Airport

Among the many shorebirds at the Fernhill Wetlands May 2 were an AVOCET,
a WILSON'S PHALAROPE, and a pair of BLUE-WINGED TEAL. That day many
shorebirds and a BLACK TERN were at Ankeny NWR south of Salem.

A COMMON LOON and a CLARK'S GREBE were at Morgan Lake in Baskett Slough
NWR west of Salem during the week. There were also 2 GREAT EGRETS, two
TUNDRA SWANS, and two ROSS'S GEESE on the refuge. YELLOW-HEADED
BLACKBIRDS and WILSON'S PHALAROPE are nesting on the refuge again this
year.

A TRUMPETER SWAN, a SANDHILL CRANE, some CLARK'S GREBES, some BLACK
TERNS, and several BLUE-WINGED TEAL were at Fern Ridge Reservoir near
Eugene during the week.

A small flock of GREATER SCAUP was still on the Columbia River at Rufus
May 2. Three pairs of GREAT GRAY OWLS are nesting this spring at Spring
Creek, west of LaGrand. The family at the Quail Run Golf Course near
LaPine continue to be seen.

A MOCKINGBIRD was on the west side of Goose Lake, south of Lakeview April
30. Another MOCKINGBIRD was at Fields May 6 along with a number of
migrants. A WHITE-THROATED SPARROW and a GREEN-TAILED TOWHEE were there
May 4. Malheur NWR is picking up now but so far no rare birds are being
reported.

Thats it for this week.
