Twelve days after the arrival of our EVENING GROSBEAKS, yesterday marked the
first of the year arrival of BLACK-HEADED GROSBEAKS at my home location.
Only two of them, both males, were seen. Last night actually turned out to
be a very busy "dinner-time" for us and our feathered friends. Just while
we sat eating dinner, watching out the nook windows brought sightings of:
BLACK-HEADED GROSBEAK (2), EVENING GROSBEAK (5), RED-BREASTED SAPSUCKER (2),
CHESTNUT-BACKED CHICKADEE (2), RUFOUS-SIDE TOWHEE (1), BLACK-CAPPED
CHICKADEE (1), STELLERS JAY (3), VIOLET-GREEN SWALLOW (7), AMERICAN ROBIN
(1), RED-WINGED BLACKBIRD(1), NORTHERN FLICKER (2), and a single PILEATED
WOODPECKER flyby. Later in the evening, I spotted my first COMMON
YELLOWTHROAT on our property this spring, down below in some cottonwood
scrubby tree growth.

No further sightings of last weekend's TURKEY VULTURE visit. Might be a
one-time thing, might be the cool cloudy weather we've had.

Oh, and one male BLACK-HEADED GROSBEAK was back at the feeder this morning
first thing also.
