Bill Ward stole my thunder for our Sunday morning Nisqually trip...And did a
fine job of it too! I just wish we had the time to make the whole loop. Oh
well! The WHITE PELICANS and the reported female WILSON'S PHALAROPE would
have been nice additions to the day's list, but any time I see a GREAT HORNED
OWL, or a REDBREASTED SAPSUCKER I've had a good day.

Saturday morning Barb Shelman and I went to Black Lake Meadows to look for the
SPOTTED SANDPIPER and the SOLITARY SANDPIPER. We saw 28 identidied species and
a couple we couldn't make out. We did see the SPOTTED SANDPIPER on the main
pond and several pair of BLUE-WINGED TEAL. We spotted a CALIFORNIA QUAIL in a
tree near the entrance. We saw one LEAST SANDPIPER and more KILLDEER than we
could count. We inadvertently flushed a GREEN-BACKED HERON and saw our first
WESTERN TANAGER of the year. We never saw the SOLITARY SANDPIPER, but did see
a LESSER YELLOWLEGS and what I thought was a GREATER YELLOWLEGS. Barb thought
it was also a LESSER YELLOWLEGS but I though it was a different bird as the
legs were orange, not yellow and the breast marking did not come as far down
the body. This bird was located on the upper pond (across the cement
causeway). I guess we'll have to go back...:-}

BTW, anyone know of anything special at Neah Bay right now. I'm heading up
ther fishing Thursday theough Sunday. Lots of afternoon time off, but no
transportation as I'm not driving this year. Hope to see TUFTED PUFFINS and
FORK-TAILED STORM PETRELS.
