Thought some folks might be interested in seeing what a couple of birders
could find in a morning of birding around Moscow, Idaho (in about a 20 mile
radius to the east). It was a pretty chilly and breezey day which is
reflected in our numbers of neotropical migrants. Also note the almost
complete lack of shorebirds due mostly (I think) to a dry spring so far (no
mup puddles in the fields). We had a couple of major misses (both kinglets
for example) but not bad for a first May Count in the area with limited
time. Highlights were Wilson's Phalarope (on 2 different sewage ponds!) and
Solitary Sandpiper. I'm guessing that it's possible to see over 100 species
in the county under the right conditions.
