POSSIBLE HUDSONIAN GODWIT

Sunday, May 10
------------------------
Blue-winged Teal and Cinnamon Teal are making quite an appearance this
Spring. 5 Blue-winged Teal and 3 Cinnamon Teal were seen on McIntyre
Reservoir in Martindale Flats, and 5 Blue-winged Teal and 2 Cinnamon
Teal were seen at Viaduct Flats. Blue-winged Teal were seen in smaller
numbers at other locations as well.

Also on Sunday, a bird identified as a HUDSONIAN GODWIT was seen with
several Whimbrels at Witty's Lagoon. Confirmation and a written
description of this bird would be appreciated.

A Marbled Godwit was on the Victoria Golf Course also with Whimbrels.

An Olive-sided Flycatcher was at the upper south slopes of Mount Douglas Park.

3 Black-headed Grosbeak's were at Blenkinsop Lake Trail.

Yellow Warblers were seen at Viaduct Flats, Blenkinsop Lake Trail and
Quick's Bottom. Many species of ducks were also present at Viaduct Flats.

An adult Golden Eagle, a Sandhill Crane and 2 Semipalmated Plovers were at
Rocky Point.

Saturday, May 9th

A lone Snow Goose was in the corn stubble field on the east side of
Stelly's School. This bird has been in this area for approximately 2 weeks
now.

A Blue Grouse was heard on top of Mt. Provost, west of Duncan.

A Baird's Sandpiper was at Clover Point.

A Solitary Sandpiper and a Virginia Rail were at the pond at the corner of
West Burnside and Charleton Road.

A Virginia Rail was seen feeding two downy young at Quick's Bottom.

NOTE: Those wishing to visit the Iona Sewage Ponds at Delta should be aware
that the gate access located just past the main entrance has been locked as
a result of vandalism. Some members of the Vancouver Natural History
Society have a key so arrangements will need to be made beforehand for
anyone wanting that access to the Ponds.
