Hello Tweets: For those who are considering making the trip, I just got
back from South Jetty of the Columbia River to see these two very
cooperative curlews. Great birds, quite accustomed to people watching
from as close as five feet (a crow flushed them and they landed
practically at my feet). Even saw the bristles very well. Anyway in
terms of logistics, it is at least a three and a half hour drive from
Ballard. Watch the signs well- I missed my turnoffs three times (twice
in Longview on Rt. 432, once at Fort Stevens State Park) on the way
down. If the weather stays gray and windy out of the N-NW, these guys
may stick around for a while...good luck. Alan
