the South Jetty of the Columbia River, Clatsop Co., OR
17 May 1998 0915 to 0945hr

Wind NW 5-10; Temp 50F


Method: appx 30 min (untimed) station count 100m east of "3 rocks" on
top of SJCR using 20x60 Bushnell spotting scope and 8x50 Bushnell
binoculars. Birds were sorted as to flyby, sitting on beach, sitting
on ocean or sitting on river.

Notes: This was an untimed seawatch (I forgot to bring my clock).
A steady stream of COMMON MURRES were moving north. Therre are still
many PACIFIC LOONS going by, but the numbers are well below previous
watches. Two distinctly different PARASITIC JAEGERS went by about
10 minutes apart. Also of interest were a single COMMON TERN and
a confused looking RED-NECKED PHALAROPE.
