Monday, May 18, 5:43 PM: Hi. This is Gene Revelas in Tacoma (253) 756-7834.
There is a BRISTLE-THIGHED CURLEW on the beach at Westport. I saw it there
today at about 5 PM. I left it on the beach about 5:20. It is located about
500 to 1000 yards south of the Westport Jetty along the beach. It is foraging
in the mid to high beach zone up among the driftwood. and there's a couple of
WHIMBRELS in the surf zone there. The bird has all the marks of the birds I
had the good luck to see last week in Oregon. As well, when it flew a short
distance, it had the nice buff colored rump and it gave the oo-eet call
several times. That's it. Good luck and good birding.

May 18, 10:23 PM: Hi. This is Bill Tweit and following up on a lead from Gene
Revelas, Bruce LaBar and I saw one BRISTLE-THIGHED CURLEW out at Westport at
the outer beach one quarter mile south of the Westport Jetty this evening
which is Monday the 18th. We saw the bird from 8:15 to about 8:45 or so
foraging all by itself in the high tide line. After we left, we saw what we
presume was the same bird flying overhead, heading northeast, into the dusk,
so I'm not sure if it will be there in the morning. It is clearing rapidly,
looks like a high pressure area is moving in. But it's probably still worth
checking.
