The memorial day weekend is coming up and no other holiday, save Labor
Day
Weekend is as hard on Ft Stevens and the Shorebird flats especially.
If you
have not seen the Curlews and have been thinking of doing so this
weekend,
get there Friday afternoon or early Saturday morning.

By the end of the day Saturday, I have every reason to believe that the
combination of unleashed dogs, mollusk and crab pickers and lost
4-wheel
drive trucks will have convinced these birds to move elsewhere.

Well, the weather pattern hasn't really changed all that much since the
end of April, Mike. The flow will be onshore westerly through the long
weekend ahead of the next upper low dropping down from the Gulf of
Alaska (which is expected to make life miserable for the Pacific NW
early next week). So there really won't be any tailwind to urge them
onward. It will be most interesting to see if the curlews slowly work
their way up the coast to BC or suddenly vanish never to be seen again.
