Tweeters: I believe it is just a case of different personality types.
I enjoy the challenge & competition. I've always been very competitive
at everything (with others or with myself).
To me, it is a lot like hunting, without the killing.
Seeing a bird where it is supposed to be is too easy for me.
I do rank staked out birds on a lesser list than those I found myself.
If you don't like it, you'll never understand it.
All I ask is that you not criticize my passion or consider yourself
superior.
Just be glad I'm not a hunter.

I'm glad I'm not the only one! I really enjoy birding, but somehow I just
can't get motivated to run around the state looking for birds that (often)
don't belong here. No offense to listers (I always keep a list myself), but
to me the real pleasure is seeing a bird in its actual habitat, and watching
it do what it normally does. I'm a little bit curious what makes a birder
jump out and go see a scissor-tailed flycatcher in WA, when they can be
easily seen in Mexico in their normal habitat.
