I mowed my lawn the Sunday the Curlews were reported and did regret it
somewhat (hadn't mowed it in two and a half weeks as I had been out
on Birdathons and migration counts). But when the birds hung out, I
decided I had to go: I'm not sure when I'll be able to afford either
Tahiti or Nome. I think the distance and cost of chasing BTCU has made a
difference to some.

On the other hand, there is always the perspective of my mother who, after
I told her I had driven halfway across the state to see a Blue Jay, said,
"oh, there were two in the yard this morning, and now there's these
crested red birds [cardinals]". Puts it in perspective.

BTW, had a male Western Tanager fly in front of me this morning and had a
younger male on campus last night. Seems to be a little bit of a movement
related to a bit of clear sky last night (albeit not much)
