I took advantage of the brief patch of sun that just went by to do a quick
walk around the Lacey cheese factory clearcut. The Scots Broom is blooming
like crazy, so the numerous singing yellowthroats are all but impossible to
spot, and your brain starts to swim from trying. A MacGillivray's Warbler
did pop up and sing on a stalk no more than ten feet away - that was nice
of him. I didn't hear or see any Lazuli Buntings, but I did hear my first
Willow Flycatcher for the year. Western Tanagers were singing all around
the fringes, so loudly that they dominated the chorus even from the middle
of the cut. One lone Vesper Sparrow sang along the central road.
