Hi Tweeters,
We had the pleasure of going on a field trip yesterday with Mike
Schroeder to
see the SPRUCE GROUSE. We went to the Okanagon National
Forest above Winthrop. The weather was overcast but pleasant. We saw
eleven SRPUCE GROUSE, seven males and four females. We observed Mike
banding six grouse, four females and two males. Two of the other males
we saw were 6+ years old. We also saw the males do a wing clap.
In addition, at Freeze Out Pass (over 6000 foot elevation) we saw BOREAL
CHICKADEES, and a HERMIT
THRUSH. (All lifers for us)
Other birds heard and seen were:
VARIED THRUSH
PINE SISKEN
TOWNSEND'S WARBLER
MALLARD
MOUNTAIN CHICKADEE
ROBIN
HAIRY WOODPECKER
PILEATED WOODPECKER
RED-BREASTED NUTHATCH
BROWN CREEPER
JUNCO
MOUNTAIN BLUEBIRDS
On the way home, on Hwy 174, approx. 10 miles west of Grand Coulee,
there was a
GOLDEN EAGLE on top of a rock. A beautiful bird.
Thanks to Mike Schroeder for the time he spent with us. We had a great
day!
