Saturday, May 23, 7:25 AM: Hello. This is Wayne Weber, (604) 597-7201, with a
few sightings from Whidbey Island on the 22nd. In Deception Pass State Park,
at least 5 OLIVE- SIDED FLYCATCHERS had arrived and were on territory in
different parts of the park. At the Oak Harbor Sewage Ponds, there were 6
BLUE-WINGED TEAL, one drake CINNAMON TEAL and a drake BARROW'S GOLDENEYE. I
think that was the first I had ever seen a BARROW'S GOLDENEYE in a sewage
pond. At Crockett Lake, at the east end of Crockett Lake, there was a SEMI-
PALMATED SANDPIPER, which I got quite a good look at, in with about 18 WESTERN
SANDPIPERS, at the east end of Crockett Lake. At the foot of Ebey Road, south
of Coupeville, on the Strait of Juan de Fuca side of the island there was a
large feeding flock of birds which included at least 20 PACIFIC LOONS, most in
breeding plumage, along with about a hundred RHINOCEROS AUKLETS and many
GULLS. At Hastie Lake, beside Highway 20 south of Oak Harbor, at least 2
AMERICAN BITTERNS could be heard calling from the marsh in the brief breaks in
the traffic and there was also a pair of CINNAMON TEAL there. That's it for
now.

May 23, 4:06 PM: This is Bob Morse reporting from Newport, Oregon. The ARCTIC
LOON continues to be seen at Yaquina Bay. Today we saw it at 2 o'clock in the
afternoon, that's Steve Brady (?) and I, and it was all along the north side
of the bay behind the large green tower in the bay and the north end of the
bay and it was seen at 2 o'clock. That bird has apparently been here since the
16th of the month.

May 23, 7:18 PM: This is Denny Granstrand from Yakima. 7:15 Saturday, May 23.
The BRISTLE-THIGHED CURLEW was seen at least two times today. Once from about
8 to 8:30 AM in the grass area near the Point Brown Jetty where Dennis Paulson
had seen it. Dennis reported it flying in to the grassy area near the houses
and condos. That's where it was seen this morning. I saw it at 11:11 near
there. It flew over the parking area. I was at the west end of the parking
area at the jetty. It flew over me and flew all the way to the muddy area west
of Damon Point and I relocated it along with Kevin Aanerud and several women
from Olympia about 20 minutes later and we looked at it for 20 to 25 minutes
till almost noon.

Sunday, May 24, 8:58 AM: Hi. This is Scott Hoskin (206) 789-8990, Yesterday,
Saturday the 23rd, I birded King County. I saw a TOWNSEND'S SOLITAIRE at
Rattlesnake Ledge above Rattlesnake Lake in North Bend and on Forest Service
Road 70 east of Enumclaw and Green Valley between milepost 12 and 13, I saw a
NORTHERN GOSHAWK flying overhead. That's about it. Good luck and good birding.

May 24, 12:02 PM: Hi. This is Jason Starfire (206) 542-3756 calling from the
Wenas Campout over in Yakima County. Today, myself, Scott Downes and Ryan Jaw
(?) birded lower Hart Canyon and the highlight of the day was one calling
LEAST FLYCATCHER. To reach this bird, go through the first two gates following
the road until you hit the first riparian buffer on your right, turn right,
follow the riparian buffer along the stream. When the buffer comes out, sets
out in front of you, look for a small trail that goes into the woods, this
trail should be marked by a fallen branch, it's a pretty big limb, that covers
[the trail], you have to step over it. Look for that. Continue on the trail
until you start going up a hill, it kind of goes through some rocky stuff. Get
up the hill and look back down in to the buffer zone. This is where we saw the
bird two times. We left the bird at about 11:05 and also in the area we had
one female AMERICAN REDSTART and a pair of RED-EYED VIREOS also a colony of
BANK SWALLOWS. Good luck and good birding.
