Try "Bird songs of the Pacific States". I bought the two-cd set
and it has helped me alot, despite the fact that some of the
bird song recordings don't sound like what I have come to believe
to be their songs (black-throated gray warbler comes to mind).
Russell Rogers also pointed out that the chipping sparrow
recording is actually a recording of an orange-crowned warbler.
Despite these problems, I love the fact that it is a cd rather
than an infernal cassette tape that has to be wound in one direction
or another for some indeterminable distance to get to the bird you
want to hear. And then you hear so many non-target sounds before
you get where you want to be that you're all confused about what
song it was you were trying to match up.
