Hi Tweeters,

This weekend, on Sunday, while driving over toward Ocean Shores, Cindy
Sprecher and I stopped at McLeary and got to see and hear a Hermit Warbler.
This is also a great spot for other forest birds. I don't often see HEWA,
so I thought others might be interested in this spot. To get there: From
I-5 at Olympia, Take Hwy 101 toward the coast. At the fork where 101 heads
north, get on Hwy 8 (DeLorme p. 61) toward McLeary. At McLeary, take Hwy
108 N through town, then turn right on Summit Rd (its still 108). At this
point you pass through clear cuts and tree farms...I stopped at a turn off
on the right (with a closed gate) at the second large stand of trees and
walked into the trees about 50 ft. and the HEWA was visible and singing
away, but very high in the canopy. If you wanted to play a tape, you could
probably get a better look at this bird, probably 15 ft away at eye
level...but I wouldn't know anything about that :-)
